The short answer

What is non-surgical under-eye treatment?

The under-eye is usually the first area to give you away. Bone recedes at the orbital rim, the fat pad that cushioned it slips downward, collagen falls and the skin, already the thinnest on the body, gets thinner still. What you see is a hollow that throws a shadow, and the shadow reads as tired no matter how much you slept.

That hollow has a name, tear trough deformity, and it is only one of the things going on. Pigmentation can mimic hollowing or exaggerate it. Fine lines from squinting add their own texture. Volume loss above the eye can make the whole socket look more skeletal. Treating all of that with filler is the standard mistake, and it is why so many under-eyes end up puffy rather than fresh.

Dr Toro treats the area as a layered problem. What is hollow gets volume, what is pigmented gets regenerative treatment, what is lined gets movement managed, what is lax gets thickened, and skincare holds all of it. Which parts apply to you is what the consultation is for.

Under-eye treatment can help to:

Reduce the shadow of a hollow tear trough

Filler placed in the groove itself lessens the hollow that casts the shadow. Redensity II is used because it is formulated for this area, with hyaluronic acid plus a brightening complex of amino acids, vitamin B6, minerals and antioxidants including glutathione.

Soften dark circles caused by pigment rather than shadow

When the darkness is pigmentation, adding volume does nothing. Polynucleotides encourage healthy cell turnover and calm inflammation, which is the mechanism that actually applies.

Smooth fine lines around the eye

Carefully dosed anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the specific muscles creasing the skin, which smooths the area and subtly lifts it, while keeping your expression intact.

Thicken skin that has gone thin and crepey

PDO mono threads trigger collagen formation in the skin itself, improving texture and thickness. It is the option for laxity, where adding filler would only make it heavier.

Restore volume above the eye

Loss in the upper socket causes hooding and a more skeletal look. Treating above the eye is often what makes the area below it look right.

Hold the result between treatments

Retinoids for cell renewal and antioxidants against environmental damage and pigment, chosen for your skin rather than bought off a shelf.

Patient journey

What to expect from under-eye treatment

Consultation & preparation

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E for a week beforehand and alcohol for 24 hours, because this area bruises more readily than most. Come without eye makeup, and do not book within a week of an important event.

During treatment

Aftercare

Sleep with your head raised for a few nights and keep salt intake low, as fluid shows quickly here. Avoid rubbing the area, strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours. Swelling and bruising are common and settle within a few days to a week. The result is judged at your 2-week review.

Under-eye treatment questions

Can filler get rid of my dark circles?

Only if the darkness is a shadow cast by a hollow. If it is pigmentation in the skin, or visible blood vessels through thin skin, filler will not change it and may make the area look heavier. Dr Toro works out which one you have first, because the answer decides the treatment.

Is under-eye filler safe?

It is one of the more technically demanding areas and it should be treated as such. Dr Toro is a GMC-registered doctor, uses a filler formulated for this area, and can dissolve hyaluronic acid filler if a result is not right. She will also decline to treat where the anatomy makes a good result unlikely.

How long does under-eye filler last?

Usually 12 to 18 months, longer than most areas, because the tear trough moves relatively little and product there is broken down slowly. Results settle over about two weeks and you are reviewed at that point, which is when any refinement is best judged.

What is the free video consultation?

A 15-minute video call before you commit to anything. It is a chance to describe what bothers you and to hear an honest view on whether this area is treatable for you, without travelling to the clinic first. A full face-to-face consultation still happens before any treatment.

Will I bruise?

The under-eye bruises more readily than most areas because the tissue is delicate and well supplied with blood vessels. Dr Toro uses a cannula where she can, which reduces it. Avoid aspirin, fish oil and alcohol beforehand, sleep with your head raised afterwards, and allow a week before an important event.
