The short answer

What is hair loss treatment?

Most people lose 50 to 100 hairs a day without noticing. Hair loss becomes visible when the hairs that fall are not replaced, and by the time you can see it in the mirror the process has usually been running for a while.

The reason it matters to diagnose before treating is that the causes are not interchangeable. Pattern hair loss, shedding triggered by stress or childbirth, an autoimmune process, tension from years of tight styling and scarring conditions that destroy follicles permanently all look like "thinning" in the mirror and need completely different responses. Treating the wrong one wastes months you do not have, because scarring conditions in particular are progressive.

Dr Toro starts with an assessment: your history, your medications, your nutrition, your styling habits, and an examination. Blood tests where something systemic might be behind it, a scalp sample where infection is suspected, and genetic testing where it would take the guesswork out of which treatments suit you.

Hair loss treatment can help to:

Work out which type of hair loss you have

Pattern loss, stress-related shedding, autoimmune patches, traction from styling and scarring conditions all present as thinning and are managed differently. This is the step most people skip.

Slow pattern hair loss and hold what you have

Androgenetic alopecia is progressive. The realistic aim is to keep the hair you still have and to thicken what is miniaturising, which is far easier than regrowing what is gone.

Recover from a shedding episode

Telogen effluvium after illness, surgery, childbirth or a period of real stress usually recovers. The job is to confirm that is what it is, support the recovery and rule out anything else.

Take the guesswork out of which treatment suits you

TrichoTest looks at how your genetic profile responds to different hair loss treatments, which narrows the options before you have spent six months finding out the hard way.

Reactivate follicles that have gone dormant

In-clinic exosome therapy and hair filler treatments target the follicle and the scalp environment directly, which suits early-stage thinning and shedding.

Catch a scarring condition early

Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia and frontal fibrosing alopecia destroy follicles permanently. Early diagnosis is what preserves the hair that has not been lost yet.

Patient journey

What to expect from hair loss treatment

Consultation & preparation

Come with a list of your current medications and supplements, and any recent blood test results if you have them. Think about when the shedding started and what else was happening at that time. Wash your hair normally; do not apply oils or styling product on the day of an in-clinic treatment.

During treatment

Aftercare

After an in-clinic scalp treatment, leave the scalp alone for the rest of the day, avoid washing your hair for 24 hours and skip swimming, saunas and heavy exercise for 48 hours. Continue any at-home treatment as directed. Progress is reviewed at around three months, with photographs for comparison.

Hair loss questions

How do I know which type of hair loss I have?

You need an assessment rather than a guess. Dr Toro reviews your history, medications, nutrition and styling habits and examines your scalp, then adds blood tests or a hair sample test where something systemic or infectious might be behind it. TrichoTest adds a genetic picture of which treatments your profile responds to.

What is TrichoTest?

A genetic test taken as a cheek swab. It indicates how your own profile is likely to respond to different hair loss treatments, which narrows the options before you spend months on something unsuitable. Dr Toro recommends it for anyone who wants the treatment plan based on evidence rather than trial and error.

Why does Dr Toro use exosomes rather than PRP?

PRP is made from your own blood, so its concentration of growth factors varies with your health on the day. Exosome therapy delivers a standardised concentration of regenerative ingredients regardless of that, which in her experience gives more consistent results. PRP remains an option and is discussed if you prefer it.

How long before I see a difference?

Give any hair plan at least six months, and expect noticeable change somewhere between three and six months if the treatment is right. Hair grows slowly and in cycles, so a month of treatment tells you almost nothing. Starting early makes far more difference than any single treatment does.

Can you treat hair loss remotely?

Assessment and follow-up can be done by online consultation, which suits patients outside London and anyone continuing an established plan. In-clinic treatments such as hair filler and exosome therapy obviously need you present. Which parts can be done remotely is agreed at your first consultation.
